This summer, Museum visitors will have an opportunity to view some of the best animal art in the world in a special free exhibition. Art and the Animal is an annual juried touring exhibition showcasing more than 60 pieces by The Society of Animal Artists, an international arts organization. This exhibit has been featured at more than 50 venues including museums and zoos, and art, cultural and science centers throughout North America.
The Society of Animal Artists is located in the historic Salmagundi Art Club on Fifth Avenue in New York. Society members come from Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe, North America, and South America. Art and the Animal is the flagship of The Society of Animal Artists, a juried competition open only to society members of the Society of Animal Artists.
The mission of The Society of Animal Artists is to promote excellence in the portrayal of animals, domestic and/or wild, in art. The Society was founded in 1960. Over the past 50 years, works created by members of The Society of Animal Artists have established new standards of artistic excellence in fine art.
